Prior to the treatment, patients will be given protective eyewear to cover their eyes. A topical anesthetic may be applied to numb the skin, making the IPL process all the more comfortable for the patient. To decrease the warmth of the IPL, a cooling gel will cover the desired area of treatment. As the procedure is underway, the smooth, glass surface of the IPL handpiece is placed over the treatment area. Waves of light will emit from the handpiece, carefully calibrated to deliver the best possible results based on the patient’s skin condition and skin type. The handpiece will be passed several times over the designated skin for about 30-40 minutes. After treatment, patients may detect slight redness in their treated area. However, this redness usually fades between a few hours to a few days.
